A way to get famous: Talk about famous people
ShareIt amazes me how some people manage to gain fame. I myself have at a little dash in the spotlight from time to time, but nothing that would warrant being called out by the queen of celebrity blogging, Perez Hilton.
I have mentioned Perez before because quite frankly he (his brand) fascinates me, and whatever that form takes – switching between laughing at some of the silly but harmless celeb gaffs to shaking my head at the total lack of respect for people, nothing is more certain – Perez Hilton got to be where he is by daring to push the dirt out there with almost all celebrities.
He’s played the game well so far picking his celeb friends wisely. In the beginning it was Paris Hilton he was all about and now he’s gone from her to Lady Gaga. And celebs themselves aren’t stupid (even if they appear so) – I can’t remember that couple from the Hills – oh yeah Spencer and Heidi, but those two were more than happy to be mocked as fame hungry air heads only to then have pictures taken with Perez which landed on his blog. Great publicity for whatever they happened to be doing – er let me think, what were they doing? Never mind. But wait, isn’t Perez equally as fame hungry?
Even Madonna decided to give Perez the time of day by giving him a high fives at a concert, whilst he stood in the front row. Who was gaining? Both parties. Madonna got a mention in the blog and Perez got his ego fed. It is quite evident he loves the attention of anyone who is a world wide celebrity. In turn the Perez machine gets bigger with ads on his blog selling like hot cakes and the odd mention of some random youtuber gives us the notion that he’s still one of us – y’know – the normal folk. Add to that the attempt to make all the bad stuff seem o.k by posting charity links. Perleaase!
I do worry about a man who constantly refers to himself as ‘we’. Is this a man who has split personality? No not really, because he, the brand of Perezhilton.com, is said to be the brain child of Perez with the help of his sister and over the years a bunch of ghost writers. Some suggest that Perez is just the face of the brand and doesn’t write very much of the site at all.
It just makes so much sense now. He (or one of his ghost writers) wished Lindsay Lohan the best for 2010 only to carrying on with Lindsay bashing days later. Because crap like that happens all the time over at Perezville, simply because the left hand doesn’t know what the right hand wrote the day before. You can just imagine Perez holding conference call with his ghost writers saying, ‘right guys, we need to hate on Lindsay this week – are we all clear on that?’
It’s a form of cyber bullying when someone is called out with the venom his site dishes out. Let’s face it I’ve had my moments of letting rip on the people I’ve fallen out with. But what makes me different is I’ve met the people and decided I no longer wish to deal with them anymore. By making it known it’s almost a resolution to myself not to deal with them again. I let it out, and it’s more or less done within a day or so. What’s Perez’s excuse?
He’s fallen foul of a few celebrities – including Will.i.am who Perez claimed punched him outside a club. The ‘we’ was dropped very quickly as Perez issued a slue of blog posts and a video claiming, ‘hitting someone is never the answer’. But that’s what he and his people do daily in a written form to many celebrities. Famous or not these people are still human and once Perez (and his people) decide you’re scum then many of his readers are allowed to post their thoughts too. It’s an ongoing hate campaign. To make it all fair in Perezville he (they, who the heck ever) allow nasty comments to be posted too. It’s sometimes reads like a really bad S & M novel. Does he get off on that. He most probably doesn’t care when he sees his bank account.
By the way, in Perezville It’s O.K to be fat if he likes you – holla Beth Ditto, but if he doesn’t he’ll rip you to shreds if you went from a size 8 to a size 10.
One day Perez’s bubble will burst and I just hope he’s earned enough karma points somewhere a long the way. And whilst at the bottom of the crap pit he can also thank all the people who’ve written negative things in his name.
I wonder where Lady Gaga will be then? Me thinks far far away from him and his ‘brand’
It reminds me constantly why I never have the desire to climb too far up the celebrity tree. It’s a bloody hard fall on the way down.
I’ll stick to life in suburbia and my small but loyal group of fans any day. You don’t have to be on Perez Hilton’s site to be someone. Remember that, people. And no, I don’t think the money he earns is worth the amount of bad karma that he’s accumilating. Fame can make people so fickle, greedy and lonely.
I’m so glad I got that off my chest. I feel cleansed. I feel better. :)

What did we learn?
ShareWhat did we learn in the last ten years?
A decade past and questions remain.
Still the bombs land.
The earth shows our fragility.
Friendships end and others begin.
The money runs out and homes are lost.
What did we learn?
Seeking answers in the stars.
For questions that remain on earth.
Jackson sang don’t stop till you get enough.
A new decade comes and we want more.
A line drawn underneath
A deep breath filled with hope.
If we learned anything
It’s how to let go.
