Today I went and did a demo make-over with the shop owner at the boutique I was telling you about in my post yesterday. It went very well indeed. A few ladies came into the boutique while I was doing the make over and said they loved the idea and would definitely book! Interesting as well one lady came in after I’d done the shop owner’s make-up and said, ‘Oh my goodness you look fantastic!’ To which the shop owner replied, ‘Yes this is Vanessa, she’s a make-up artist and she’s just given me a make-over and mini facial.’ More leaflets handed out!
This is how women should network!
A quick run down of what I did and maybe some of you can put it into practice where you are.
- A simple idea of doing make-overs in a small boutique with a % of my fee going towards a garment of the lady’s choosing in the boutique on the day.
- Three sided colour leaflets designed in Microsoft Publisher and printed out at home.
Includes : front with picture of one of my pieces of work, my contact details and name.
Middle section – what the deal consists of.
Back section – a more detailed account of who I am, the products I use and my experience as a make-up artist. - Pitched to boutique owner
- Free demo for boutique owner. Left 20 leaflets for her to use for bookings and give to her customers.
- Will contact boutique tomorrow to get feedback and check any possible bookings.
I’m hoping this turns out to be a regular gig because it was a lot of fun talking to all these ladies too. This boutique is like a the hub of social activity! I had no idea how busy it could get and they are a lot of regulars too!
I’m now going to work on my make-up blog more so if I don’t post here for a few days you know why.
I feel extremely accomplished!
I hope everyone has a super weekend!!!

Thanks! I hope so. The thing is; it’s so simple – what’s the first thing many think of when choosing and buying a key garment, aside from if it’s going fit or look right etc? What lipstick etc is going to go with this. I hear it all the time. I’m taking out the guesswork and adding a nice finish to a lady’s shopping day. V x
Love the way you shared exactly how you did this step-by-step. It’s the old school way of getting clients for beauty, as a fashion stylist, business consultant, you name it! And it still works to this day! I keep telling people, businesses were successful before Social Media LOL
We must have been channelling thoughts because when I read your post on The Curvy Coach I was like YES the old school way is still working. I think the old school way works well when dealing with in town business because as I was saying to Rachel Spivey; so many businesses still don’t have web presence. I think face to face networking also adds the personal touch which often doesn’t come across in social media – these are often essential with small businesses who deal with a female orientated market.
