Tropical Make-up Look for Tropical Inspired Maxi Dress

Hey ladies!

I’m going to be doing a series of  make-up tutorials about coordinating your make-up with your outfit. I hope you find them inspiring and that they will help you experiment more with make-up in co-ordination with your fashion.

I wanted to start with a very easy look that will suit anyone.  It will take you about 5-6 minutes once you get used to doing it (not including foundation application)
Depending on your skin tone you can adjust the depth of the key colour (yellow in this case) to suit your tastes.

The dress I am working with is a Tropical theme Maxi Dress. In order to show the make-up better I’m just going to show the bustier section of the maxi because it’s really what I gained the inspiration from.

Now you will need to grab some make-up. You don’t have to get the exact same make-up brands as I used, but the colours and textures would have to be similar in order to get the make-up to look like mine.

  1. Spandex 12 – Collection 2000 (any emerald glitter eyeliner will do)
  2. DIG IT! 15 – Collection 2000 (any black and gold mix eyeliner will do)
  3. Teal 21 – Collection 2000 (any teal eyeliner will do)
  4. Who Are You Wearing? – Benefit (any light pink gloss will do)
  5. Black Mascara (I left this out because every gal as her favourite) :)
  6. Light Yellow eyeshadow – Beauty UK (make sure this yellow is light in regards to application but can be layered to make it stronger in tone)
  7. Scratch – Urban Decay (any deep salmon colour will do)
  8. White – Screenface (white shadows are great to have because they can be used as a base or to lighten shadows)
  9. 76 Dazzle Dust – Barry M (this is a high sparkle yellow and if you want to give your shadow that extra glow you should pick up one similar as the yellow shade you use)
  10. Bronzer – Beauty UK ( Bronzers vary for different skin tones. For very dark skin pick a deep pink instead for blush)

  1. Take your white and apply it to your lower lid and blend it out to your natural crease.
  2. Take your layering light yellow and apply that over the white (the reason for doing this is simply to keep the yellow light looking but true)
  3. Take your salmon pink shade and apply it on the upper lid so it meets the yellow and blend.
  4. Reapply a little of the white just in between your nature eye crease to give a highlight.
  5. Take a tiny dab of the yellow sparkle dust and gently dab it over the main yellow. You only need a shimmer!
  6. Now take your green  glitter liquid eyeliner and apply – you can flick it out for a little more ooh-la-la
  7. Once that’s totally dry apply the black/gold glitter liquid eyeliner on top of that. Again take it to where ever you started and ended the green liquid eyeliner.

You should end up with something that resembles this. Don’t worry if it’s not exactly like it. Just apply it as you feel comfortable to suit your eye shape. The main trick with this look is to use blocks of colour and blend them together so they seamlessness drift from one colour to the next. Think of your eyes as a tropical beach with a warm yellow sun rising up to through white clouds. *dreams* :)

Now we go to the under eyes.

  1. Take a small brush and apply a little of the white and blend. It can actually be quite a thick line as it’s going to peek through your main eyeliner. This is to make the eyes look a little alert (works great if you’re tired)
  2. Take your teal eyeliner and apply it as you would normally. Blend the colour with your finger tip so it doesn’t look hard.
  3. Grab your black/gold sparkle liquid eyeliner and apply it over the teal. Just enough to give a little sparkle underneath the eyes.

Apply your mascara and bronzer. Bronzer can also be used on the forehead and chin as well as the cheeks, basically anywhere you may catch the sun.

*If you have a darker skin, take your deep pink blusher and apply it sparingly over the cheek bones. You may want to add a golden highlighter on the top of that for that ultra tropical warmth.

Lastly take your light pink lipgloss and go to town! Mwah!

Here is the finished look! You’ll notice it compliments the colours in the maxi dress without being too over powering.

Other tips:

You can change the key colour to another shade, orange for instance would look beautiful with some of the ethnic style maxi dresses that are out this season.

If you want to make this a little more dramatic then take a silvery blue shade like the one I wore in the beauty UK review video (link below) and apply it on the outer corner of your eye. Blend it out for a smoky effect.

Please let me know what you think! :)

      Thanks sweetie.
Having a resident MUA is a really good thing to have with your photog business J – you should give it some research time :) , but back to your question, yes of course you know I’d be happy to! I still don’t know if I’m coming for sure – my plans have slightly changed with the ASOS gig, but if I do you know you’ll be one of the first people to know. I have a long list of people who I want to catch up with including you and Ray! For sure! V x
